The welfare of children has long been a concern in South Sudan. Due to civil unrest, children have experienced parental loss, violence, abuse, exploitation, and neglect. This continues to be a reality. Many South Sudanese children depend on extended family, caregivers and the wider community for their basic needs. With holistic care for these vulnerable children, there is hope.

The education project aims to support children, and their teachers, and provide additional assistance to caregivers.

For many years, Christian Mercy International has been offering care and education to children at Emmanuel School. These children, who have lost their parents due to the widespread violence in South Sudan, rely on the community to meet their basic needs. They live with families in their communities who serve as their caregivers, and Christian Mercy International helps support these children through various educational and economic initiatives.

Now, Christian Mercy International is working to implement some of the successful strategies developed at Emmanuel School to benefit ten other non-profit schools throughout the Aweil Region. Providing goats and teacher training.

Goats are provided to first-grade students in ten schools, with a particular focus on including children with disabilities and those who do not have biological parents to care for them. The goats create a continuous source of income for caregivers, allowing them to pay for their children’s school fees and cover other educational and medical expenses.

Additionally, the education of teachers is improved by offering further training to those who have not completed high school. This training enables teachers to better support their students.
