What does bequest mean?

A bequest is a gift left in a will to a person, organisation, or charity. It is a way to allocate a portion of your estate to causes you care about after you pass away. By leaving a bequest to Global Mission Partners, you can create a lasting legacy that continues to support faith-driven projects and bring hope to communities in need.

How do I include a charity in my will?

Leaving a gift in your Will is an important decision. If this is something you’d like to consider, here are some next steps you can take.

Step 1. Speak to your family and loved ones.

Step 2. Get in touch with us. We’d love to speak with you if you are considering leaving a bequest so we can provide further information. If you’ve already written your Will, we’d love to thank you personally.

Step 3. Consider what kind of gift you want to leave, whether it be a residual, specific amount, or an asset.

Step 4. Consult a professional solicitor or go to Willed.com, who work with Global Mission Partners to provide an online, affordable, and legally binding process for writing a Will and leaving a bequest.

Step 5. Write your Will.

If I leave a gift to charity, will my family still be provided for?

Yes. You determine what percentage of your bequest goes to whom. Bequests are entirely flexible and can be structured around your desire to leave a philanthropic legacy and the needs of your family. If in doubt, speak with a solicitor and include your family in Will discussions to ensure everyone is aware of your intentions.

How will Global Mission Partners use my gift?

Any gift we receive via bequest goes directly towards continuing the life-changing work we do, whether that be emergency relief, training Christian leaders, supporting communities in poverty, or any other partnership or project we invest in. If you would prefer, you can leave specific instructions for your Will as to where you’d like your gift to be used. This could be:

  • International Church Partnerships (ICP)
  • Indigenous Ministries Australia (IMA)
  • Churches of Christ Overseas Aid (COCOA)

What is a bequest in Australia?

In Australia, a bequest refers to a donation or gift left to a beneficiary in a legally valid will. This can include money, property, shares, or other assets. A bequest to charity, such as Global Mission Partners, ensures that your values and generosity continue to make a difference beyond your lifetime, supporting Christian mission work locally and globally.

What is the difference between a gift and a bequest?

A gift is a donation made during your lifetime, whereas a bequest is a donation specified in your will that is given after you pass away. Both are meaningful ways to support Global Mission Partners, but a bequest allows you to make a lasting impact without affecting your current financial situation.

What is an example of a bequest?

An example of a bequest is: “I bequeath $10,000 to Global Mission Partners to support their ongoing mission work.”
Another example could be leaving a percentage of your estate or a specific asset, such as property or shares, to support Global Mission Partners’ Christian outreach and development projects.
