At the end of each year, our Navigate Adventure students set off on a two week ‘extreme trek’. Partnering with Global Mission Partners (GMP), we hope to expose them to a different culture and to challenge the way they think about the world around them and their faith...

Expectations are high at this time of year. Many of us look forward and plan special times with family, friends and our church community. At times, we over plan!

The Indigenous Ministries Australia (IMA) program of GMP, together with Churches of Christ and the Wentworth and Dareton Cooperating Parish, are pleased to welcome Brendon and Amy Garlett, along with their four children, into the role of Indigenous Ministry Outreach Workers.

I would like to thank the talented and dedicated team who visited our children’s home. The team leaders Abby, Jessie and Laura did an amazing job. The team took morning devotions for about 80 children and staff.

Any journey, particularly a complex one such as when travelling to an unfamiliar place while on holidays, needs a direction and an imagined destination. Such a sense of where to go provides, even the most uncertain traveller, with a moment of satisfaction. We have made it – we are at our destination!

GMP launched a Churches of Christ Overseas Aid (COCOA) Vanuatu Emergency Appeal during October to raise critical support for the thousands of people displaced from their homes, families and communities due to the volcanic activity on Ambae Island.

History is made up of many decisions and adjustments to the way things are. At critical times, our voices can be highly significant in influencing and bringing about changes that have impacted the lives of others. 

Now is a time when our voices really do matter.

The government has now evacuated all people from Ambae Island. Esline Toamavute, General Secretary of Churches of Christ Conference in Vanuatu (CCCV) provides an update of the situation from Santo. 

For the Juraki volunteers who attended in 2016 and 2017, the insight into the God-given strengths of Indigenous culture were invaluable, as were the beginnings of friendships that provide the best context for reconciliation in our land.

So what do we hope to see from the ministry of Global Mission Partners? It is an important question to answer and reflect on. One word comes to mind, and that word is change!

If you’ve ever taken the Safe Water September challenge or donated to someone who has, you may have wondered about the water projects you’re helping fund. With the help of our Zimbabwean partner, Showers of Blessing, we’ll walk you through the process of how boreholes come to be, from identifying communities in need of safe water, through to drilling and installing wells. 

The Rupemba community is a beneficiary of the Showers of Blessing small project fund. After visiting the garden project, which had a membership of 37 women, I realised the hardships that the women were going through to water their garden. The women had to walk an average of four kilometres to the garden, in the African heat, and had to fetch water from the nearby Ngezi River 200 metres away, and carry to the garden a 20-litre bucket of water on their heads.
