Prayer and Support for the Middle East Crisis

Tuesday, 24 October 2023

The tragic and ongoing violence in the Middle East is echoing around the world.

Alongside Christians globally, we are heartbroken seeing the suffering and loss of life. People made in God’s image and close to God’s heart, both Israeli and Palestinian.

Since the recent conflict began on October 7th 2023, over 1,400 Israelis and 5,000 Palestinians have been killed. Over 15,000 have been injured and more than one million people are now displaced. The violence is getting worse. War has spread to Lebanon and is now rippling across the region.

The recent bombing of the al-Ahli Arab Hospital is particularly horrific. This hospital is a significant Christian presence in the enclaved Gaza City, where many wounded and families had sort sanctuary. Instead, they found fear and terror. More than 400 people were killed.

Global Mission Partners has launched the Middle East Crisis Appeal to help provide critically needed humanitarian support to people affected by the conflict. Donations received to the appeal will be directed through fellow member of the Church Agencies Network Disaster Organisation, Anglican Overseas Aid. Their local partner, the al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, is working to provide urgently needed aid so Christian care can continue.

The hospital provides healthcare to patients regardless of ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, or economic status. This appeal will help fund their emergency medical response, allowing them to provide 24-hour emergency care for all people impacted.

Global Mission Partners is calling on the Churches of Christ movement across Australia to pray for peace for victims of the current Israel/Palestine war.

We would love to resource your church to pray for and support those who desperately need peace. Download our prayer resource or PowerPoint slide to use in your service, or contact our National Church Relationships manager, Carly Cassidy, at carly@gmp.org.au.
