In the Indian community of Prakash Tekadi, women are gaining more than reading and writing skills. They are gaining confidence for everyday life.
Supported by the Australian Government through the Australian NGO Cooperation Program (ANCP), this project is implemented through Global Mission Partners’ partnership with Hosanna Ministries. Together, they aim to increase education and health outcomes for members of the Prakash Tekadi community, with a particular focus on children’s education, women’s literacy and practical health awareness.
For women in Prakash Tekadi, literacy classes have been focused on practical skills for daily living. These classes are helping women develop their ability to read and write, while building the confidence to apply these skills in their daily lives beyond the classroom.
In March 2026, 11 women took part in a written examination as part of the project. All 11 participants did well and were able to read, write and sign their names.
It is a simple outcome, but one that carries real significance. Being able to sign your own name is a milestone that changes ordinary but vital interactions, from completing forms and engaging with local services to supporting children with schoolwork and participating more confidently in community life.
This progress in women’s literacy goes hand-in-hand with encouraging results in children’s education. Forty children from Prakash Tekadi were regularly attending school in the most recent reported months, including 17 boys and 23 girls.
For these children, regular school attendance provides more than an education. It creates opportunities to develop essential literacy and numeracy skills, build friendships and confidence, and pursue pathways that may not have been available to previous generations. Consistent access to education also helps establish routines and stability, laying important foundations for their future wellbeing and participation in society.
Together, these outcomes point to the heart of the project: steady, community-based change through practical support.
For children, regular school attendance strengthens the foundations for future opportunity. For women, literacy can build confidence, independence and dignity. For the wider community, these small but meaningful steps help create an environment where education is valued, and families are better equipped for daily life.
Through this project, women and children in Prakash Tekadi are being supported with practical opportunities that can shape their present circumstances and open doors for the future.
