In the diverse setting of Buddhist temples, the bustling Maeklong railway and Tha Kha floating markets in Samut Songkhram, Thailand, a community of twenty Christian families gathers every Sunday for worship, dedicated to ministering to Thai and migrant workers in the province.
The Samut Songkhram Evangelism Center is the first of its kind among the Mon people in the area, led by missionaries Thaung Myint and his wife, Yu Marlar, from Myanmar. The community comprises migrant workers from various ethnic backgrounds engaged in vegetable gardening, salt production, coconut sugar production, seafood processing, and construction work.
Samut Songkhram Evangelism Center provides factory workers and migrants with transport so they can attend church services and Bible studies. The singing and worship encourage those who attend the services, and the prayer meetings testify of healings. Church members visit the local prison each month to provide company and share the Gospel with the inmates.
Thaung Myint and Yu Marlar are helping marginalised families in “the lowest class in Thailand” with their daily lives. The missionaries ” actively visit workplaces and communities to share the Gospel and support families,” providing mediation, counselling and prayer.
The centre offers various programs for children and youth, including outings, shared meals, prayer and Bible studies, computer lessons, and language classes. They have “Good food, good drink, good time.”
The Samut Songkhram Evangelism Center provides opportunities for people to hear the Gospel and learn more about Jesus in a place of such diverse beliefs and religions. As a result of these efforts, twelve people have recently decided to follow Jesus.
Please pray for the church families and migrant workers living in Samut Songkhram. Consider also supporting this project or establishing a church-to-church partnership.
