My Experience Visiting Zimbabwe

Safe Water September has come to a close for another year, and this year marked 10 years of taking part in the challenge. After a decade of drinking only water each September, a recent trip to Zimbabwe with Lachie, Global Mission Partners’ National Youth and Schools Lead, brought an opportunity to see firsthand the impact of the funds raised over the years.

“These people were thanking me for my sacrifice in Safe Water September. I couldn’t abelieve it.”

What an experience! Safe Water September has been a large part of my yearly calendar for over a decade now. But this year, I was finally able to visit the communities in rural Zimbabwe that our fundraising has directly impacted.

To tell you I was proud to see the work Global Mission Partners has done over there would be a massive understatement.

Zimbabweans live to serve; serve God, their family, and each other. That was evident in my time over there. Their passion for their communities and growth is so inspiring. They certainly don’t take for granted the opportunities that present themselves due to the bores that have been dug in their areas. They use their now easily accessible water to boost agriculture, build infrastructure such as school buildings, and provide for their families.

I was so moved hearing community members speak about the daily hardships they used to face just to find water, and how the bore has completely transformed their lives.

These people were thanking me for my sacrifice in Safe Water September. I couldn’t believe it. The sacrifice we make is so small, and yet it makes such a profound difference in thousands of people’s lives. I was so moved to know that we, as Safe Water September challenge takers, and Global Mission Partners, are contributing to these positive transformations.

What an honour it was to see that our fundraising is truly helping people each year.

Don’t underestimate the impact your choices can make. The Safe Water September challenge may be over for another year, but there is still time to donate and help fund the next life-changing water bore.
