Binh Phuoc Association for the Disabled, the Poor and Orphans

Let's Bring Change through Toilets

Only one third of the rural population in Vietnam has access to adequate sanitation facilities. GMP has developed a strong working relationship with the Binh Phuoc Association for the Disabled, the Poor and Orphans (BPADPO) to build toilets and provided hygiene training for people living with a disability in the Binh Phuoc Province. A toilet is essential for people with a disability. It provides dignity and encourages societal inclusion, as well as improving health and sanitation for the wider community.

Establishing Local Ownership

The partnership with BPADPO was begun by John and Lan Dean who established COCOA South East Asia in 2005.  The work began with housing construction, clean water and livelihood projects in Binh Phuoc Province, located 150 km north-west from Ho Chi Minh City.  The partnership now continues with the Binh Phuoc Association for the Disabled, the Poor and Orphans taking direct responsibility for the work, increasing the local ownership of what is done.

Meet The Locals

Thuong Thythy

I am a representative of the local authority who works alongside the COCOA leaders to submit the ideas for installing toilets and bathrooms in the area. BPADPO identifies the vulnerable families, and toilet facilities and access equipment are then installed.
