Pakistan Floods Appeal

An unprecedented monsoon season has created havoc across Pakistan leaving people without food, shelter and other basic needs. Of Pakistan’s 160 districts, 73% have been affected. As of 31 August 2022, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported 1,191 deaths, including 399 children, with 3,641 people injured. Over one million houses have been damaged and 372,823 destroyed. The number of people affected is expected to increase as there are still substantial populations yet to be reached.

The unprecedented amount of rain has disrupted lives, properties, shelter, infrastructure and livelihoods of the affected communities.

In response GMP is launching the Pakistan Floods emergency appeal. Donations given to the appeal will be directed through the ACT Alliance.

GMP is a member of the ACT Alliance, an international network of church agencies responding to disasters around the world. We will support ACT Alliance members Christian World Service Asia and Norwegian Church Aid (NCA), who are well placed to respond to this emergency.

Christian World Service Asia will assist people to purchase essential food items and address medical needs. They will work in parts of Sindh Province and KPK Province. The response In Sindh will endeavour to support 10,000 flood-affected families and, in KPK, a further 5,000. This response will reach an estimate of 105,000 individuals.

Norwegian Church Aid will focus on providing safe drinking water and emergency shelter kits to affected people in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab Provinces. In both districts, NCA aims to reach 7,000 households/families through Water Sanitation and Hygiene and Non-Food Items responses.

The ACT Alliance has issued an alert for this response and a further detailed appeal will follow.

Please give now to assist people affected by the devastating floods. All donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible. To help respond to this disaster GMP will contribute $10,000, from discretionary funds. This will not affect ongoing activities of our partners.

Funds are received in excess of the project need will be directed to the COCOA Emergency Fund for use in future disaster responses.
