COCOA End of Financial Year Appeal

As Christians who care about God's work in the world, you can play an important role in addressing the urgent needs of our partners.

Intensifying international conflicts, disasters, pandemics and the cost-of-living crisis are pushing more people than ever into poverty. Only last year, the Asian Development Bank estimated an additional 70 million people in our region are now facing extreme poverty. Many vulnerable people are unable to pay for basic items including food, fuel and education.

Your tax-deductible gift today can invest in education and training that brings long-lasting hope. A gift that never stops giving, opening opportunities for people to end the cruelty of poverty for themselves.

One of the vulnerable places is Yavatmal, a small town in central India. In Yavatmal, many people struggle to access meaningful work. They rely on unreliable employment for day-to-day survival.

The good news is that our partner, Hosanna Ministries, provides basic education, care for children, medical care, literacy, and vocational training for adults. In Yavatmal, Hosanna focuses on providing training in computer and beautician skills, as well as tailoring. Life-changing programs that bring hope of ending the generational cycle of poverty for people like Babita and Pramod.

When Pramod lost his job, he opened a small ironing shop to ensure they had an income to support their seven-year-old son. Very few people own an iron in the slums, so they pay Pramod for his ironing services.

Babita, his wife, wanted to help. But sadly, many women in remote parts of India have limited or no access to good schools. With girls’ education not prioritised, many are married as children and never have the opportunity to learn to read or write. This means they have limited options to help earn an income to support their families. Babita had always been interested in sewing but could not pursue it while caring for her household.

Thanks to the tailoring training, Babita finally learned how to sew, in her own words, she had learned to “stitch properly”. Babita has started providing tailoring services in the shop with her husband.

Babita never thought she would be a successful tailor and business owner. But now, located on a busy street in Yavatmal, Babita and Pramod’s shop stands out.

Your gift will help support the transformational work of our COCOA partners, like Hosanna Ministries, and help them extend their impact in the next financial year.

Please make a tax-deductible donation before June 30. There are many people just like Babita, Pramod and their son, who remain trapped in poverty. Your ongoing support means our partners can continue their life-changing work and even expand it.
