dhiiyaan on-country experience

This trip offers a unique on-country experience with the dhiiyaan Aboriginal Christian community at the Dalby property in regional Queensland, about 2.5 hours west of Brisbane. Dhiiyaan is an Aboriginal faith community that runs a number of community development programs, the main one being ‘True Fella’ a program designed specifically for at risk Indigenous youth who have had engagement with the criminal justice system. The dhiiyaan property is a 40 acre former childrens home on the edge of Dalby around 2.5 hours west of Brisbane in the Western Downs with fantastic renovated camp facilities. Dhiiyaan, meaning ‘family’ in the Goomeroi language, is a Aboriginal owned and run corporation as well as a Christian community.

The 3 day stay includes:

  • Welcome ceremonies
  • Cultural awareness teaching sessions
  • Youth and criminal justice awareness session
  • Property tour
  • Animal management learning
  • Permaculture and caring for country session
  • Volunteer work on the property including maintenance, animal and plant care
  • Directed dadiri deep listening and sharing campfire time

Who

Church groups, leadership teams, study groups or anyone looking to learn more about the Indigenous culture,  faith and world view in a relaxed rural retreat setting. Group sizes are limited to 15 people.

When

Visits need to be booked in advance for 2 nights, 3 day duration.

Travel

Attendees will need to arrange their own travel to and from Brisbane airport. All local transport will be provided.

Cost

$350 per person (includes all activities, food, accommodation and airport transfers)
