In November 2017, twelve people ranging in ages between 20 to 75 from Australia, China, England and Korea, became the first team from Sunnybank Church of Christ to visit the Lomawai Church in Fiji for 10 days.

The aim was to assist the Lomawai Church where possible, to support the local Pastor, to engage with the culture and people of Lomawai and for the team to grow spiritually as they stepped out to serve the Lord. Lomawai Church of Christ is located between Nadi and Sigatoka. The region is rural farms, primarily growing sugar cane. The people are non-indigenous Fijian from India. They are served by Pastor Muneshwar and a Korean missionary, Pastor Lim.

The team served in Sunday services, home visitation, children’s programs and home groups. The home visitation was challenging yet rewarding. Time and time again we, strangers, were invited into people’s homes where we shared the love of Jesus, left Bibles and reading material and prayed for people and the household. Many of these homes were Hindu.

The local believers were encouraged as we sat, ate and prayed with them.  They were encouraged to see the large number of children (and parents) who attended the children’s programs. We taught about the birth of Jesus as God’s gift of love to us.

Sunnybank Church of Christ was truly blessed by this opportunity and have commenced a mentoring partnership with Pastor Munesh which will see Pastor Kevan returning in April/May to work on strategic planning and development. We also plan to return in November 2018.
